Thomas Marhoefer, 81, of Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Charter Memory Care in Moline.
The second son of Harry and Carolyn Marhoefer, Tom was born on November 19, 1944, in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated from Alleman High School, Black Hawk College, and Augustana College before ultimately earning his master’s degree from Western Illinois University.
Tom married Betty Chapman on January 21, 1967, at Sacred Heart Church in Moline. Two days later, he began a distinguished 38-year career in education, teaching fifth grade at Washington School.
Throughout his career, Tom was deeply involved with the Moline Education Association, serving as a building representative, member of the executive board and negotiating team, vice president, and president. He was also active with the Illinois Education Association Regional Council and the National Education Association, where he served as a convention delegate. A devoted member of Sacred Heart Church, Tom sang in its choir for nearly 60 years.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife, Betty; daughter, Kathryn (Rafael) Gonzalez; son, Tommy; and granddaughters, Charlotte and Ava Gonzalez.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard; and his infant daughter, Sara.
