Sue Peters, age 89, died peacefully at The Summit in Bettendorf, with her loving family by her side on June 12, 2025. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 25, at The Unity Center, 562 5th Ave S, Clinton, IA, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 5:00 p.m. In addition, a service will be held on June 16, 2025, starting at 1:30 p.m. at The Summit in Bettendorf.
Sue was born on August 11, 1935, in Columbus, NE, the daughter of Robert Byllesby and Sereta McCabe. Her family moved to Clinton when she was a child. She graduated from CHS in 1953 and went on to graduate from the University of Iowa with a teaching degree in 1957. She taught kindergarten and second grade and later established the Talented and Gifted Program in Clinton. She retired after thirty years of teaching. After retiring, Sue began her journey into ministry, attending seminary and becoming a pastor. At age 70, she founded the Unity Center and served there for ten years. She baptized and married many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Sue married David Peters on August 20, 1955. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2021. Together, they raised three children. Sue and Dave were prolific travelers who loved sharing their experiences. They always had a travel log dinner with a meal and gifts reflecting their destination, for their children and grandchildren. They took all of their grandchildren on special trips to Europe so that they would have “itchy feet to travel”.
An active member of her community, Sue belonged to several organizations, including PEO, Bridge Club, Book Club, Women of Theology, AAUW, and Toastmasters. She was named a YWCA Woman of Achievement, Influential Woman of the Year.
Sue is survived by her three children: Lisa Grace of Davenport; Kathy Peters of Davenport; and Eric (Shari) Peters of Clinton; six grandchildren, Amanda (Jeff) Lipp of St. Augustine, FL, Sara Siokos of Davenport, Lindsey (Dave) Simmonds of DeWitt, Abbigail (Travis) Dietrick of Clinton, Daniel (Michelle) Peters of Clinton, and Stephanie (Sean) Wolterman of Corpus Christi, TX; and nineteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, David, and her sister Joan Boitman.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on her memory page at mvcremation.com.
