Sharon Horner, lovingly known by her family and friends, was a remarkable soul who graced the world with her kindness and laughter. Born on June 4, 1949, in the quaint town of Maquoketa, Iowa, Sharon embarked on a journey that would see her touch the lives of many before her peaceful departure on June 21, 2025. In accordance with Sharon's wishes, a private celebration will be held with close family and friends at a later date.
After graduating from Maquoketa High School, Sharon embarked on working full time over the years at many factories and retired from a fulfilling career at Car-Freshner Corporation in DeWitt, where her dedication and warmth created an enduring legacy within the workforce. Her colleagues admired not only her industrious spirit but also the joy she infused into everyday tasks, making work feel more like a gathering of cherished friends.
Sharon was a devoted mother to her children, Tracy (Eric) Griffin of Swisher and Jason (Amanda) Horner of Toronto, each of whom carry forward her spirit of compassion and resilience. She cherished her role as a grandmother, surrounded by the joys of her grandchildren: Hayley (Bailey) Runyan, Kennedy Moyle (Austin), Remington Horner, Karter Griffin, Rylee Horner, and Kayla Horner. Each moment spent with them was filled with love, laughter, and the creation of treasured memories that will weave through the fabric of their lives forever.
Her familial ties stretched wide, with siblings who were as integral to her life as she was to theirs. Betty Anderson of Wyoming, Linda Watters of Maquoketa, Gerald (Linda) McCoy of Cedar Rapids, her twin Karon (Greg) Redfern of Marion, Janet (Ken) Nelson of Sun Lakes, Arizona, and JoAnn (Steve) Determan of Marion shared a bond forged in the fires of shared experiences and childhood memories. The laughter, challenges, and victories they encountered together formed an irreplaceable tapestry of sisterhood that will continue to echo in their hearts.
In addition to her beloved family, Sharon had a very special friend in Ed Freyermuth, with whom she shared nearly 40 years of companionship. Their special friendship was a beacon of joy and support, a testament to the connections that flourish when nurtured by respect and understanding.
As we remember Sharon Horner, let us celebrate her life, a kaleidoscope of vibrant moments filled with love, joy, and steadfast support for those she held dear. Her legacy is not just in the memories of her loved ones but in the goodness she spread throughout her community, a shining example of how one person can truly make a difference in the lives of many.
