Ronald Malmstead, born on January 30, 1934, in Moline, Illinois, passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, at Mercer Manor in Aledo, Illinois. His journey through life was marked by dedication, adventure, and a deep love for music and horses that touched all who knew him.

Ronald’s career was marked by commitment and adventure. After starting his working life with Deere & Company, he dedicated many years there before retiring in 1986. His role took him far from home, traveling across the globe to Australia, South Africa, and Thailand. True to his family-first spirit, Ronald brought his loved ones with him on these international journeys, sharing the wonders of the world while balancing the demands of a thriving career. Even after retirement, his work ethic shone brightly as he took on part-time roles at a local golf course and delivering auto parts for a company near home.

Music was woven deeply into Ronald’s life; it was a source of joy, comfort, and connection that resonated throughout his family and friendships. His love for melody and rhythm was a constant companion, echoing the spirit and warmth he carried within.

Ronald is survived by his devoted wife Donna, his daughter Kathy Moncrief and her husband Dewey, and his son Mike Malmstead and wife Patty. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, Mindy Graham (Chad), Tami Sheldon (Josh), Kara Moncrief, Jamie Rocco, Ron M. Malmstead (Marzena), Eric Malmstead (Tracy), Kelsey Malmstead (Brittany), Amy Piff (Michael), and Achiel Lister (Michael). He was also a proud great-grandfather to 17 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild, a testament to the enduring love and family bonds he nurtured throughout his life.

Ronald was preceded in death by his loving parents, Harvey and Lillian Malmstead, sisters Barbara Wilcox and Beverly Malmstadt and his sons, Ronald Malmstead Jr. and David Malmstead. Their memories remain forever a part of the fabric of his life.

Ronald Malmstead’s life was one of rich experiences and heartfelt connections, marked by a resilience and joy that touched every life he encountered. His musical spirit and loving heart will be deeply missed but never forgotten by those who were blessed to know him.
