Richard Allen Westerlund

Richard Allen Westerlund, 80, of Moline, IL, passed away Friday, September 25, 2026, surrounded by love at home.

Rick was born August 14, 1946, in Moline, IL. He was the son of Lois and Vernon Goellner.

Rick attended Belvidere High School in Belvidere, IL. He married Linda Letterly on August 28, 1965. Rick was drafted into the Army from 1966 to 1968, then began his career on September 18, 1968, at McLaughlin Body Company in Moline. He retired in 2011.

Rick, known by most as “Pie”, enjoyed autobody work, fishing, camping, playing horseshoes, and darts in his early years.

In his later years, he developed a love for golf and always provided a shot of the best aiming fluid on the 13th hole. Ron Higgerson, Steve Harper, and Shorty Fields comprised his Bad Boy Golf Group.

Rick will be dearly missed by his wife and best dog, Dandy, his children Todd (Shelley) Westerlund, Cordova, Il, Tracy (David) Hanfeld-Thole, Lancaster, WI, and Tamara (Leland) Ahern, Mount Pleasant, WI along with seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, siblings Anton (Jill) Goellner, Gerald (Joy) Goellner, Priscilla (Ray) Blattner, Steven (Cis) Westerlund, Susan Egbert, brother-in-laws Doug Letterly, Dale (Dana) Letterly, and Dennis (Cindy) Letterly.

Rick was preceded in death by his parents and in-laws, Leroy and Norma Letterly; daughter-in-law, Crystal Westerlund; son-in-law, Michael Hanfeld; brother, Roger Westerlund; sisters Judy (Mac) MacCafferty, Pauline (David) Makowski; his best friend Phil “Philly” Thompson and his brother, Don Thompson.

Pie can now sit back, listen to music, birdwatch, smoke a cigarette, sip on a nice rum and coke while reuniting with his best dogs, Willow and Odie.

Cremation will be directed by Mississippi Valley Cremation & Direct Burial, 1811 15th Street Place, Moline, IL. Per his wishes, cremation rights have been accorded, and there will be no services.
