Peter L. Wallen Jr., lovingly known as Pete, passed away on February 4, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born on February 24, 1934.

Pete lived a life defined by hard work, service, and kindness. For more than 55 years, he was the owner and operator of O&W Cleaning Specialist, earning the respect of his community through dedication and reliability.

Pete proudly served his community in multiple ways. He was a Kewanee Police Officer and later a member of the Kewanee Police Pension Board. He also served on the Kewanee City Council as City Commissioner, always striving to help others and improve his hometown.

An avid bowler and golfer, Pete loved the outdoors. He especially cherished his hunting trips, spending many years traveling to Canada in pursuit of bear and moose—experiences he spoke of fondly.

Pete established the Jerry Nell Memorial in honor of his brother Jerry, a lasting tribute to family and remembrance. Known for his willingness to lend a hand, Pete was well-liked by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Wallen (Aercke) (April 1, 1938 – March 28, 2006); his father, Peter Matt Wallen (September 15, 1902 – November 29, 1943); his mother, Alice Janet Hawotte Swank Nell (September 27, 1909 – October 21, 1969); his brother, Jerry Dee Nell (March 29, 1937 – June 11, 1994); and his sister, Bertha Maude Swank Ensley (April 1, 1930 – January 13, 2009).

Pete is survived by his children: Jeff Wallen of Tucson, Arizona; Paul Wallen of Chouteau, Oklahoma; Peter Wallen of Lyndon, Illinois; and Tammy Swanson of Illinois City, Illinois.

Per Pete’s wishes, there will be no services.

Pete will be remembered for his generous spirit, strong work ethic, love of family, and lifelong dedication to his community. He leaves behind many memories and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
