Paul Jeys

Paul LeRoy Jeys, 77, of Davenport, passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Paul was born November 15, 1948, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Jack and Jayne (Dessinger) Jeys. He married Brenda Cheek on July 6, 1968, in Davenport.

From a young age, Paul was known for his incredible work ethic, loyalty, and kind heart. He proudly served 6 years in the Army before spending 22 years at Caterpillar. He later became the proud co-owner of A & J Construction, Inc., where he worked with family and friends for 33 years until retiring.

No matter where he was, Paul believed in doing the job right and was always willing to lend a helping hand. But more than anything, he loved his family and his friends. Paul had never met a stranger; people often said that if you met Paul once, you had a friend for life. His quick wit, warm smile, generous heart, and playful sense of humor left a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know him.

Paul’s favorite place was the family cabin on Leisure Lake (AKA Labor Lake, as some of you might know). Whether he was working on yet another project, fixing something that wasn’t broken yet, playing with fire, or simply spending time with those he loved, that’s where he was the happiest. If he had a tool in one hand and family nearby, life was just about perfect.

Left to honor his memory is the love of his life for 58 years, Brenda; his daughters and son-in-laws, Kim (Joel) Ralfs, Jodee (Eric) Gravert, his cherished grandchildren, Courtney Ralfs (Nick Eginoire), Hannah (Devin) Platts, Lauren Ralfs, Brittanee Ashby, Jacob (Brittany) Gravert, Jordan Gravert (Maria Morales); and his treasured great-grandchildren, Jayden Gravert and Sophie Platts. He will also be remembered by his siblings, Jackie Braet, Phyllis Tumey, and Jim Jeys, as well as his lifelong best friends, Dave Schumaker and Ronnie Ward; and his lake buddies Lyle Goldensoph and Randy Speth

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Jayne Jeys, his brother Perry Joe Jeys, as well as his other lifelong best friend, Roland Van Alstine.

Paul’s greatest legacy wasn’t the work he did, but the love he gave so freely. His family was his greatest pride, his friendships lasted a lifetime, and his kindness touched countless lives. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever carried in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. “If he ever gave you a hard time, it was because he liked you. If he ever helped you, it was because that’s just who he was. We hope you’ll join us to share stories, laughs, and celebrate a life well lived”

A Celebration of Life will be held

August 15, 2026, from 12:00- 4:00 pm at the

Walcott American Legion, 121 Bryant Street, Walcott, IA.

Attire: Come “Paul casual” and wear a blue shirt!
