Michael Joseph Wierzycki, affectionately known as "Big Mike" or "Biggin," 70, of Kewanee, Illinois, passed away, surrounded by his loved ones on August 16, 2026.
Mike was born on December 15, 1955, in Elgin, Illinois, to Frank and Mary Wierzycki.
Mike married Dian Ross in November 1982. Together, they had three children: Chad Wierzycki of Bowling Green, Kentucky; Michelle (Dave) Allensworth of Kewanee, Illinois; and Samantha (Robby) Dickerson of Puyallup, Washington.
Mike spent the last 20 years of his life with his loving partner, Debbie Heinz. She had three children whom he loved as his own: Mindy (Brad) Shenaut of Oneida, Illinois; Kylie (Kraig) Pugh of Williamsfield, Illinois; and Weston Heinz of Ballwin, Missouri.
Also surviving are his nine grandchildren; his sister, Marion Drawyer; his brothers, Donald Wierzycki and David Jones; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Frank Wierzycki and John Morehead; and his sister, Shirley Brose.
In 1973, Mike began working at Kewanee Machinery and Conveyor, where he spent 10 years in tool and die. In 1983, he joined Pines/Great Dane, working in maintenance and eventually becoming Head of Maintenance. He retired in March 2022 after 39 years of dedicated service. During his time at Pines/Great Dane, Mike was a strong advocate for his fellow employees. He served as Union Steward from 1985 until his retirement in 2022, including 12 years as Chief Union Steward.
Mike enjoyed camping at Allendale Conservation Club, where he served as club president at one time. In 2005, he established the biannual Allendale Golf Cart Poker Run, orchestrating at least 22 runs over the years. The event continues today, bringing people together and raising money for the Conservation Club.
An avid sports fan, Mike loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, St. Louis Cardinals, and Illinois basketball. In his younger years, he rode his Harley-Davidson motorcycle with the Buzzards Motorcycle Club. As the club's Road Captain, he mapped out numerous trips across the United States, including rides to Sturgis. He also occasionally enjoyed golfing and fishing.
One of Mike's favorite pastimes was singing karaoke. He loved music of all genres and cherished nothing more than spending time with friends, sharing laughter, and having a good time. Above all, Mike will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and deep love for his family and friends.
Cremation will be directed by Mississippi Valley Cremation and Direct Burial, Moline, IL. In lieu of traditional services, the family will hold a Celebration of Life, with details to be announced at a later date.
