Melanie Dawn Sedam, 52, of New Boston, IL, passed away on Saturday, February 7, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA.
Melanie was born August 22, 1973, in Aledo, IL, the daughter of Ernie and Margo Bloem Shoemaker. Melanie was one of the happiest people you'd have ever met. She was always on the go, enjoyed working, and being outside.
Melanie loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family. She was adventurous and full of laughter. She was strong, full of love, and full of life. She was outgoing, optimistic, caring with an amazing sense of humor. Melanie's hobbies were gardening, fishing, boating, swimming, and she liked collecting things.
Melanie was the mother of Samantha Thirtyacre of Oakville, Jerri Floyd of Muscatine, Iowa, Joshua Masters of Abingdon, Illinois, and Destiny Masters of Oquawka, Illinois. Grandmother to Aubrey, Silas, Dane Thirtyacre, and Rayna Nash; Melanie, Michael Johnson, Abcde Ford, and Bentley Floyd; Luna Session, and Michael S. Abbott; Daughter of Margo (Bloem) Shoemaker of New Boston, IL; Significant other John Tisor Oakville, IA; Brothers Michael (Kelli) Shoemaker from Ridgefield, WA, Kevin(Toy) Shoemaker, Travis Shoemaker and Trevor Shoemaker from Lakeland FL; Sisters Sheila Brown, Kim(Kenny) Seitz, and Tracey Wilkens from New Boston IL.
She was preceded in death by her Ex-Husband Scott Sedam, Brother Eddie Shoemaker, Father Ernie Shoemaker, brother-in-law Bill Brown, many Aunts and Uncles, as well as both Maternal and Paternal Grandparents.
Cremation will be directed by Mississippi Valley Cremation & Direct Burial, 1811 15th Street Place, Moline, IL.
Visitation scheduled February 14th from 12 pm-1 pm at the Assembly of God Church in New Boston, IL, with services afterwards.
