It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marva Lewis, a cherished member of the community and beloved family member, who left this world peacefully in her sleep on April 30, 2026, at her home in Davenport, Iowa. Born on August 16, 1964, in Fayette, Missouri, Marva's life was marked by service, kindness, and unwavering dedication to those around her.

Marva was a longtime member of the PGI community group, where she established life-long friends that became sisters. Her beautiful voice uplifted many as a cherished choir member. Her passion extended beyond music, as she fervently volunteered with prison ministry programs, offering compassion and hope to those in need. An accomplished author, Marva published several children’s books, enriching the lives of young readers with her creativity and love for storytelling. Her compassion also shone through her advocacy for the visually impaired, reflecting her deep commitment to making the world a better place. A true nature enthusiast and dog lover, Marva also found joy and solace in the natural world,

Her educational journey began in the Rock Island, Illinois, Public School System, District 41, and culminated in her graduation from Black Hawk College in Moline, Illinois. Her love of learning and commitment to growth remained with her throughout her life.

Marva was also a proud veteran of the United States Army, serving honorably for fifteen years, including duty during the Persian Gulf War. She earned the Meritorious Service Medal and achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 2, exemplifying courage, discipline, and dedication.

Those who knew Marva will remember her as genuine, kind, loving, and incredibly loyal—a heart that gave freely and a spirit that inspired all she encountered.

Marva is lovingly survived by her sister Melanie Lewis, her brother Marlon Lewis, and sister-in-law Wanda Lewis, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who held her dear. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Lester L. Lewis and Dora Lewis, and her brother Lester M. Lewis.

A memorial service celebrating Marva's life will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Third Missionary Baptist Church, 222 West 14th Street, Davenport, IA 52803. Military honors will follow at The Rock Island Arsenal at 12:00 PM, and the Repass will be at 1:00 PM at Third Missionary Baptist Church.

The community and family mourn the loss of a remarkable woman whose life was a beacon of light and kindness. Marva’s legacy will endure in the hearts she touched and the lives she transformed through her generous spirit and unwavering commitment to others.
