Marlin A. Seiler, age 92, was a proud Navy veteran, father, and grandfather who passed away peacefully at Mercy One Genesis in Davenport, Iowa, on Saturday, May 23, 2026, after a brief illness. He was born on November 7, 1933, to Amos and Emilie Seiler in Clark County, SD. lived a life marked by service, dedication, and love for his family and community.

Marlin’s journey began in South Dakota, where he graduated from Clark High School in 1951. Following his education, he answered the call of duty and proudly served four years in the United States Navy during the Korean War aboard the USS Genesee AOG-8. His military service was a source of great pride throughout his lifetime, reflecting his commitment to his country and fellow servicemen. He was also a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), honoring his enduring ties to those who served.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Marlin ran the family farm in South Dakota. In November 1965, he relocated to Illinois, where he embarked on a varied career, including work at BF Goodrich and in construction, before becoming an owner/operator. He continued in this role with determination until his retirement in 1993. He had six children with his first wife. He married his wife, Virginia (Ronek) Seiler, in 1981 and celebrated their 45th Anniversary in January.

Marlin’s proudest accomplishments were not only his military service and professional career but also the large, loving family he nurtured. He is survived by his beloved wife, Virginia, who stood beside him through all the seasons of life, daughters Lori Hartwig of Henry, Illinois, Deann Rohloff of Auburn Hills, Michigan, and Joan Noramczyk (Jim) of Princeton, Illinois. He is also survived by his sons, Jay Seiler of Chillicothe, Illinois, and Kent Seiler (Leslie) of Princeville, Illinois. Furthermore, his family includes stepdaughters Victoria Campbell of Buffalo, Iowa, Tammy Kranz of Moline, Illinois, and stepson Roger Mastin (Cheryl) of Long Grove, Iowa.

Marlin’s legacy extends to thirty-four grandchildren, fifty-one great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren, a testament to the lasting impact of his love and guidance. Though surrounded by this extensive family, he also mourns several loved ones who passed before him, including his parents, Amos and Emilie Seiler (Seefeldt), his sister Loretta Boehnke and brother-in-law, Bob, his oldest son Randy Seiler, his son-in-law Edward Hartwig, and a great-granddaughter.

Beyond his roles as husband, father, and grandfather, Marlin enjoyed fishing, traveling, and had a deep love of reading. These interests enriched his life and the lives of those around him, reflecting a man who embraced both the quiet pleasures and the adventures life offered. He also enjoyed spending time with all the grandchildren.

Marlin A. Seiler will be remembered with great respect and affection for his strength, character, and unwavering devotion to family and country. His legacy is one of honor, resilience, and love that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege to know him.

Visitation will be on Friday, June 5, 2026, from 10 AM to 11 AM, with the service beginning at 11 AM at Mississippi Valley Cremation & Direct Burial, 1811 15th Street Place, Moline, IL. Graveside service will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery at 12:30 PM.
