IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marilyn
Cross
December 21, 1935 – January 19, 2026
Marilyn Cross, cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, left this world peacefully on January 19, 2026, at Unity Point Trinity Hospital in Bettendorf, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family. Born on December 21, 1935, in Ottumwa, Iowa, she lived a life marked by kindness, devotion, and a deep love for her family and faith.
Marilyn enjoyed a fulfilling career that included working at a law office in Clinton, Iowa, contributing her time in the canteen at Alcoa, and dedicating over 30 years to Sears Manufacturing. Following her retirement, she continued to serve her community by working part-time at Moorhead Patterson and Co., as well as in the office of the Bettendorf Christian Church, where she also shared her passion for guiding children as a Sunday school teacher.
An inspired learner, Marilyn earned an Associate's degree at Scott Community College while balancing full-time work and family commitments. Her educational pursuits were a testament to her dedication and relentless spirit.
Marilyn was not only known for her industrious work ethic but also for her vibrant personality. She was kind, welcoming, and devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family and her faith. A lover of laughter, she brought joy to those around her with her soft heart and warm nature. Her fondness for flowers and love for collecting rocks came to symbolize her appreciation for the beauty in both nature and life. She cherished moments spent antiquing with her husband and enjoyed the simplicity of tent camping and watching the wonders of nature. Family gatherings were particularly dear to her heart, as they strengthened the bonds that were central to her life.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Christine Mechem (daughter) and Larry Mechem (son-in-law), Sheree Rogers (daughter) and Steven Rogers (son-in-law), Suzanne Otts (daughter) and Jimmy Otts (son-in-law), and William Cross (son) and Terry Cross (daughter-in-law); as well as 16 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Her legacy will live on through the love and memories she created with each of her family members, who are proud to carry forward her spirit of kindness and compassion.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Leo Cross; her son, Mark Cross; her son, Robert Cross; her granddaughter, Jincy Rogers; her grandson, Austin Otts; and her parents, Lawrence Glenn and Merle Glenn-Severson. Each of these family members played a significant role in her life, and their memories will be cherished by those who remain.
Marilyn Cross will be remembered not only for her myriad contributions to her community and family but also for the profound love she fostered throughout her life. Her gentle spirit and unwavering dedication will forever illuminate the hearts of those she touched.
A celebration of life will be held in the Spring.
