Lynda Ann ‘Gladney’ Swift, a devoted mother, grandmother, and lifelong seamstress, passed away on November 18, 2025, at the age of 70. Born on December 23, 1954, Lynda lived a life dedicated to her passion for sewing and nurturing her family and friends.
Lynda's professional journey began with her tenure at Big Yank where she worked for many years until its closure. Despite this transition, she carried her love for sewing into her career, taking a position at Ruth Clothing Store. Her home-based sewing business became a testament to her skills and commitment, providing service to several satisfied customers who benefited from her expertise.
An alumnus of Washington High School in Kansas City, Kansas, class of 1972, Lynda later returned to education to pursue her interests in fashion design and computer science—an embodiment of her lifelong dedication to personal growth and creativity.
Remembered for her simplicity and warmth, Lynda was always there for those in need. Family and friends cherish the memories of her unwavering support, particularly in moments of clothing crises when her adept sewing skills could salvage any wardrobe dilemma. Her loving nature and radiant personality left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Lynda is survived by her five children: Lena Swift, Dustin Love, Timothy Love, Latrice Swift, and Dashun Swift. She also leaves behind three siblings: Marcella Lee, Elaine Gladney, and Jerry Gladney. Throughout her life, she cultivated deep friendships, notably with her lifelong friends and bonus sisters, Earnestine Jones, Cassondra Smith, Nicole, Nikki, and Morgan. Additionally, she is survived by two special friends, Herbert Bolden and Mustafa Abdul-Salaam, along with 18 cherished grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, several satisfied customers!
Lynda was preceded in death by her parents, Julia Jones and Marcellious Gladney, as well as her sister Jeanetta Edwards, her brother James Henry Gladney, and her husband, Leroy Swift.
Her legacy of love, creativity, and family devotion will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. Lynda's impact resonates in the hearts of her family and friends as they celebrate her remarkable life and the countless memories they shared.
