Lee James Carter was born in Davenport, Iowa, on June 4, 1963, to Diane K. Bedenbender and Harry C. Carter. On June 30, 2026, after a courageous journey marked by quiet strength, unwavering faith, and an enduring positive spirit, Lee was welcomed into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. There to greet him were his beloved mother, Diane K. Tollifson; his fraternal and maternal grandparents; and his faithful companion, Dexter. More than a pet, Dexter was Lee's constant friend, loyal sidekick, and source of unconditional love through every season of life. It brings comfort to those who loved Lee to imagine their joyful reunion.

Anyone who knew Lee knew he had an extraordinary appreciation for good food. He approached every meal with enthusiasm and was legendary among family and friends for how quickly he could make a full plate disappear. If there was one thing you could count on, it was that Lee would be ready for seconds before everyone else had finished their first helping.

Lee had a gift for making people feel welcome with his easy smile, quick wit, and genuine interest in others. He found joy in the simple things—a great meal, a good conversation, time with friends and family, and the unconditional companionship of Dexter. Even as his health declined, Lee rarely focused on himself. Instead, he chose gratitude over complaint, hope over discouragement, and found ways to lift the spirits of those around him. His quiet courage and unwavering optimism became an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Above all, Lee cherished his family and the relationships he built throughout his life. He showed those around him that true strength is measured not by the hardships we endure, but by the love we share, the joy we bring to others, and the grace with which we face each day. His compassion, humility, resilience, and unwavering faith will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Lee is survived by his father, Harry C. Carter; his brothers, Alan (Teresa) Carter, Paul (Gena) Carter, Joel McKay, David (Beth) Carter, and Montel Vann; his sisters, Lynell Vann and Katy (Sean) Kennedy; his uncles, George Riley and Larry Bedenbender; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

Although our hearts are broken by his passing, we rejoice in knowing that Lee is whole again—free from pain, restored in perfect health, and at peace in the presence of his Savior. His life reminds us that true strength is measured not by the absence of hardship, but by the grace with which we face it and the love we leave behind.

Lee's legacy is one of faith, perseverance, kindness, humility, and joy. He never passed up a good meal, he never let life's challenges steal his joy, and he never missed an opportunity to brighten someone else's day. His smile will be remembered. His laughter will be missed. His example will continue to inspire. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit lives on in the countless lives he touched and in the memories that will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
