Lavonzo Chamberlain, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on February 12, 2026, in LeClaire, Iowa, at the age of 78. Born on December 15, 1947, in Preston, Mississippi, Lavonzo led a life characterized by resilience, creativity, and an unwavering passion for music and outdoor pursuits.

Throughout his career, Lavonzo found fulfillment in various roles, including heavy equipment operator, construction worker, and long-haul truck driver. His love for music was evident as he played the piano, drums, and guitar, often performing with bands in his younger days. Notably, he also served honorably in the Army as a heavyweight boxer during the Vietnam War, a testament to his strength and discipline.

Lavonzo was known for his engaging personality, marked by a candid nature that often brought both laughter and insight to those around him. He was a complex individual who balanced toughness with a kind heart, always willing to lend a helping hand. He cherished joyful moments spent dancing, fishing, cooking, and playing music, creating lasting memories that his family will forever treasure. The thrill of road trips and the joy of everything outdoors were additional sources of happiness in his life.

He had a lively spirit, a genuine love of good food, and was known as an exceptional cook. Lavonzo held a special fondness for Mississippi, where he reminisced about his roots and often expressed a desire to return home. His strong character shone through in every interaction, whether he was sharing a story or cracking a well-timed joke. He was smooth with the ladies and tough with the guys, embodying a warmth that drew people in even as his stubbornness sometimes made him a challenge.

Lavonzo is survived by his daughter, Lavontaye Renee Chamberlain; his brothers, Walter Chamberlain, LJ Chamberlain, Jimmy Mathews, Bernard Mathews, and sisters, Peggy Sue Chamberlain, Geraldine Mathews, as well as his daughters Jasmine Bingham, Shaunte Turner, and stepdaughters Juanita Owens and Tameeka Emory. He also leaves behind more than ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, alongside a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will remember him fondly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gifford Chamberlain and Janie Ware, as well as his brother, Gifford Chamberlain, and sisters Joaquin Chamberlain and Charlaine Mathews.

Lavonzo will be deeply missed by all who knew him, remembered not just for his vibrant personality and diverse talents but also for the enduring love and cherished moments he shared with family and friends throughout his remarkable life.
