Laura Marie Henneman, 71, passed peacefully on March 29, 2026, surrounded by her close family.

If you knew Laura, you knew she loved to talk and tell stories. Coming from a small town in rural Indiana, Laura was always fascinated by people and nature. If you met her once, she remembered you and considered you a friend. The story of her life is full of memorable stories, loyal friends and loving family.

Laura was born on October 29, 1954, the daughter of Gene and Alene (Clerget) McKinley. As a child, Laura fondly recalled running around with her six siblings, finding whatever trouble they could get into. She developed a strong work ethic growing up on the farm, where she learned that hard work and perseverance were essential values throughout life. She would often reminisce about childhood memories, such as picking up rocks from the corn fields, playing in the creeks and nearby rock quarry, tractor rides, and sibling rivalries.

Laura attended North White High School and Purdue University. During her early twenties, she spent a year in California with her sister Diane, taking on a variety of jobs, including modeling and serving as a personal assistant. When she returned home to Indiana, she married James (Jim) Henneman. Together they welcomed two sons, Jesse and Jacob, and later made their permanent home in Davenport. Laura devoted herself to raising her sons as a single mother, working multiple jobs to meet their needs and showing up for every sporting event along the way. She worked in the Human Resources Department at Mercy Hospital before beginning a long career at MidAmerican Energy, where she retired after 30 years working in the call center and in new employee training. She took great pride in mentoring and training the many employees she worked with over the years.

She loved being outdoors and going on adventures, both big and small. She loved traveling to see friends and family, especially anywhere that was warm. She enjoyed driving her BMW Z3 convertible, gardening, home improvement projects, and anything to do with nature. She was also deeply artistic, with a special love for painting, and had a remarkable talent for creating beautiful artwork. Most of all, she loved her children and grandchildren. She never wanted to miss a basketball or soccer game, a recital, or a babysitting opportunity. Her warmth, humor, and gift for conversation will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Laura is survived by her sons Jesse Henneman (Rebekah) and Jacob Henneman (Emily); her siblings Carol Green (John Moore), Sharon McKinley, Jane Overton (Lloyd), Cathy Klopfenstein (Jeff), and Max McKinley (Melissa Burde); and her seven grandchildren: Nile, Jarrett, Thea, Calvin, Morgan, Theodore, and Esme. As well as dozens of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Gene and Alene, sister Diane Bir (Bob), former spouse Jim Henneman, and longtime partner Jeff Guthrie.
