Larry "Whitey" Watson, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, at his residence in Bettendorf, Iowa. Born on May 7, 1937, in Monmouth, Illinois, Larry’s life spanned 88 years filled with love, dedication, and commitment to his family and community.
Larry was a beloved husband to Betty Watson, whose partnership and companionship enriched his life profoundly. Together, they built a family that stood as a testament to their shared values and enduring love.
He is survived by his devoted sister, Clarice Hendel, and his five treasured children: Cindy Anderson, Lisa Johannsen, Katrina Maere, Brigitte Watson, and Ronnie Chance. Larry also embraced his sons-in-law, Marty Anderson, Karl Johannsen, and Terry Chance, as integral parts of his family. His legacy continues through 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, each carrying forward the warmth and kindness that Larry so generously gave.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, LeMoine and Norma Watson, whose influence shaped the man he became. He also mourned the loss of several family members who were dear to him: Charles and Helen Myers, his parents-in-law; and his brothers- and sisters-in-law, James Hendel, James Myers, Janet Myers, and Robert Myers. Their memories remain treasured by all who knew them.
Throughout his life, Larry earned the affectionate nickname "Whitey," a reflection of the endearing nature that touched everyone fortunate to know him. His steadfast character and unwavering love for his family will be remembered with profound respect and admiration.
Larry Watson’s passing marks the end of a remarkable chapter, but his spirit lives on in the hearts of those who loved him. His life was a beacon of devotion and strength, inspiring generations and leaving an indelible imprint on his family’s history.
Services to honor Larry’s memory will be held at Roseville Cemetery South, Hwy 116, East of Hwy 67, Roseville, Illinois, on Wednesday, March 25th at 1 p.m. A lunch will follow at his daughter's home in Davenport, Iowa. His family extends their deepest gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time.
