Larry John Ohrberg, 84, of Moline, IL, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at his home with his loving wife, Karen, by his side.
Larry John Ohrberg was born August 5, 1941, in Iowa City, IA. He passed away peacefully at home on October 23, 2025. Larry was adopted by Maybelle and John Ohrberg of Davenport at the age of 18 months from Annie Whitmeyer Home. His father died when he was 8. His mother remarried Fay Petty, and he helped raise Larry. Larry married Karen Durham on December 14, 1968, in DeWitt, Iowa, whom he met on a blind date. He was introduced to Karen by her neighbor, Patty. He started working for John Deere on his 18th birthday. He retired in 1995 to help take care of his mom and stepdad.
He was a member of Union Church, where he loved to mow the grass. He was currently a member of Hope Congregational Church. Larry was a former member of the Moline Lions Club and a Past President. He was also a member of the Rock Island Noon Lions Club. He is also a member of the Milan Knights of Pythias and was Past Grand Chancellor. He was also a former member of the Rock Island Conservation Club and the National Wildlife Turkey Federation. He loved hunting and fishing. Larry volunteered for the Amputee Support Group as a fellow peer counselor for new amputee patients. Larry also volunteered for the John Deere Classic for 21 years. Larry and his wife also played Santa and Mrs. Claus for many organizations in the QC area. In his younger days, he umpired softball for many organizations and was also a football official. He played softball in three John Deere leagues. He was a beloved Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs fan.
Larry is survived by his wife, Karen; his daughter, Vicki Ohrberg, and her significant other, Rodney Strong. He also has a daughter, Maybelle. He is survived by three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He has a special great-granddaughter, Ashley, and five honorary grandchildren, Erin, Piper, Austin, Thomasville, NC, and Liz and Bella, Little Falls, MN. He has a special niece, Thelma. There are many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, stepfather, sister Dorothy, and best friend Gilbert Stephenson.
There were no services per his request, and he was cremated. The family wishes to thank Heartland Hospice. Any memorials can be given to Active Day, a senior day center in Moline, IL, or Quad City Animal Welfare Center in Milan, IL.
