John David Findlay, 56, of Rock Island, IL, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Silvis Center for Nursing & Rehab, Silvis. Cremation will be directed by Mississippi Valley Cremation & Direct Burial, Moline. He is survived by his children, Kyra Findlay and Killian Boone; his brothers, Joe Findlay and Jay Findlay; their respective families; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Joyce Findlay.

A celebration of life will be held starting at 5 PM on July 11th at the Rock Island Bent River, 512 24th Street, Rock Island, IL. This location does not serve food, so we’re going potluck style. Bring anything to share, if you’re able. There will be a full bar, live music, and a bunch of fun. Please also bring stickers to put on his urn.

John liked music that some people don’t like, and hated things other people loved. He was a contrarian, an individual, and had strong opinions. He would listen to you, he would debate you, and then let you live your life as you saw fit. In his youth, he was a skater and dabbled in other extreme sports. His wit was quick, and his mouth was smart. He had a very distinctive laugh, as do his brothers and his daughter. If you were lucky and worthy, you got to hear that laugh often.

The most important thing to know about John is that he was full of love. He deeply loved his parents. He was the oldest of three brothers, and they have been close their whole lives. John has many friends, far too many to count or name, though his friend Greg Lindell deserves a special mention as his best friend. John especially loved his children. His daughter Kyra was the light of his life; he loved her more than she will ever understand. Killian, though not his biological child, made him a father by choice. He spent a lot of quality time with them, going to concerts and taking fun trips. They were fortunate to have him for the relatively short time that they did. To say that John will be missed is an understatement. He is gone too soon. Please honor him the way his daughter would want you to. Let people know you love them every time you feel it.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and express condolences on his memory page at www.mvcremation.com.
