Jeffrey Beard, a devoted family man, skilled drafting technician, and passionate Mustang enthusiast, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in Rock Island, Illinois. Born on December 1, 1954, in Davenport, Iowa, Jeffrey’s life was marked by dedication to his craft, vibrant interests, and an enduring commitment to those he loved.
Jeffrey’s early years set the stage for a life rich in unique achievements and diverse talents. As a student at Central High School in Davenport, he distinguished himself not only academically but also through pioneering roles as the school’s first male cheerleader and a member of the Acapella Choir. He furthered his education at Iowa State University and Scott Community College, preparing a foundation for his career in technical drafting.
Professionally, Jeffrey built a respected career with REC as a drafting technician before joining MidAmerican Energy as an electrical drafting technician, from which he retired in 2016. His work was characterized by precision and dedication, reflecting his methodical approach and commitment to excellence.
Beyond his professional life, Jeffrey was deeply passionate about automobiles, particularly Mustangs. A proud owner and driver of two Fox Body Mustangs and other Ford cars, he was an active participant in car shows and embraced the Mustang community with enthusiasm. His love of photography, both 35mm and digital, captured moments and memories he treasured, while his interest in NASCAR motorsports and being a valued member to the BlackHawk Hiking Club added to the richness of his hobbies.
Jeffrey’s proudest accomplishments, above all else, were his family, children, and cars—a testament to the priorities that guided his life. His resilience was evident as he faced years of dialysis and battled diabetes and poor cardiac health. Despite the advancements of modern medicine, his time eventually came to pass, leaving behind a profound legacy.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Stephanie, and their loving family, including his step-daughter Jennifer Hyslope-Rogers of Davenport, Iowa, and her husband Chris Rogers; his daughter Emily Beard of Story City, Iowa, and her husband Sheldon Mattson; as well as his cherished granddaughter, Ginny Hyslope-Rogers. Family ties are further honored by sister-in-laws Theresa Villages (Benard) Spain, Maurita Krotz (Phillip) Walker, IA, Micheala Baxter (Patrick) SunCity, AZ and brother-in-laws Chris Smith (Molly) Castle Pines, Co, Tim Smith (Diane) Roanoke, VA and Aunt Penny Butz and Uncle Chuck Butz of Florida and many nieces and nephews. Jeffrey was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Liz Beard, and his in-laws, Dale and Virginia Smith.
Jeffrey Beard’s life was one of accomplishment and affection, marked by a dedication to family and passions alike. His memory will endure in the hearts of those who knew him and in the quiet beauty of the Mustangs he so loved to drive. In his passing, we remember a man whose steadfast spirit and warm presence enriched the lives around him.
