Gregory "Greg" Zirbes, born on March 30, 1957, in Clinton, Iowa, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, in Davenport, Iowa. He was a cherished father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend, remembered for his kind and welcoming nature. Greg possessed a unique ability to make others laugh and feel good, continually striving to spread joy to those around him.
Throughout his life, Greg showed a profound love for his family. He was a dedicated father to his son,s Andrew Zirbes, Zak Zirbes, and Ben Zirbes, and a loving father to his daughter, Emily Zirbes. His role as a grandfather to Alianna Zirbes and Amare Haynes brought him immense joy, and he embraced every moment spent with them.
In addition to his family, Greg shared strong bonds with his siblings, Tom Zirbes, Ron Zirbes, and Gina Melvin. They formed a tight-knit group, supporting each other through life's joys and challenges.
Greg's passions included fishing, playing football, and running track, activities that reflected his vibrant spirit and zest for life. He relished every opportunity to engage with his favorite pastimes and especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories that will be cherished forever.
The family will host a Celebration of Life for Greg on December 29, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mississippi Valley Cremation & Direct Burial in Moline, Illinois. This gathering will honor his legacy and the positive impact he made on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Greg’s parents, Gene and Pearl Zirbes, have predeceased him, leaving behind a legacy of love and warmth that has been carried forward through his family. The memory of Gregory Zirbes will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to share in his life.
It was one of Greg's final requests that those who attended his celebration of life come dressed in Chicago Cubs or Chicago Bears attire.
