Earl Benjamin Hofer passed away peacefully on June 10, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis East ICU in Davenport, Iowa. Born on April 15, 1959, in West Union, Iowa, Earl’s life journey was marked by hard work, humor, and heartfelt connections.

Earl graduated from West Marshall High School in State Center, Iowa, in 1977. He continued his education at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, earning an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Agribusiness in 1980. Earl’s professional journey was one of dedication and craftsmanship. He honed his skills as a carpenter in Davenport, Iowa, and later co-founded E & G Construction. He worked with his good friend George Reller, building not just structures, but a legacy of quality and trust. In addition, Earl worked at Ridgecrest Village Retirement Community in maintenance, where life brought him a special gift, his wife, Kathy. Even after retirement, Earl remained active and enjoyed a part-time position at AutoZone.

Earl was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, sharing many happy moments with his wife watching baseball games at home and cheering at Busch Stadium in person. He married Kathy J. Terrill on July 8, 1995, beneath the iconic St. Louis Arch. Earl also enjoyed football, and his time in Colorado deepened his devotion to the Denver Broncos. His hobbies reflected his hands-on nature, enjoying woodworking. Earl's affection for his golden retrievers over the years brought warmth and joy to his home. Known for his great sense of humor, Earl could brighten a room with a witty remark, and his personality made him a cherished friend and family member.

Earl leaves behind a loving family who will remember his strength, laughter, and kindness. He is survived by his sister, Lori Hofer; sons Nicholas (Jona Myers) and Trey Hofer; daughter Danielle (James) Hofer-Crull; and step-daughters Marty Holder, Lori Buzynski, and Jaime Gray. His grandchildren, Tara, Carter, Addyson, and Chance Crull; Annika and Alistair Hofer; Westly (Tara) Gray; Karlee (Zach) Mouw; Tyler (Alyssa) and A.J. Buzynski; Austin and Isaiah Gray, as well as four great-grandchildren, Lola, Ava, Haddly, and Harper Gray.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Iona Hofer, wife Kathy, sister Carol, brothers Brad and Ron Hofer, step-son Rob Gray, and grandson James Crull Jr.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at The Villa's Lodge at The Vistas at Bettendorf, located at 2412 Grant Street, Bettendorf, Iowa. Family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by Earl are invited to gather and honor his memory.
