Doris Caroline Winston, of Bettendorf, Iowa, peacefully passed away surrounded by the love of her two daughters. She was quite the fighter against esophageal cancer for three and a half years. She had only been given a short time, but she counted each day as a blessing.

Born on June 27, 1948, to Henry and Norma Witkowski, in Ottumwa, Iowa, Doris lived a life defined by giving you the honest truth, kindness, quiet strength, and unconditional love. She found joy in the simple things but always appreciated: quality, beauty, and a home filled with love for her pets.

Doris dedicated 30 years to John Deere as a secretary, where her strong work ethic and dedication earned her the opportunity to retire at the young age of 58. Retirement allowed her to spend more time enjoying the things she loved most.

She was happiest watching K-Dramas, Tia Weston's house renovations, Becky's Acre Homestead, cooking shows, and historical series on Netflix. In her younger years, she loved sewing, crocheting, and do-it-yourself projects inspired by Bob Vila and This Old House. Later in life, she rarely missed any HGTV shows and found great enjoyment watching various YouTube channels. She also loved dining out with family and friends. Whether she was thinking about decorating, organizing, or dreaming about the next home improvement project, she had an eye for making things beautiful even if it was for others and not herself.

Above all, Doris had an enormous heart for animals. Throughout her life, she lovingly cared for many cherished companions. Her beloved dogs, Beau Beau, Chui, Grady, and Jack, and her cats, Dylan and Willow, were treasured members of her family and brought her endless happiness. More than anything, Doris loved her family.

She leaves behind her daughters, Shelley Shaner and Shannon (Travis) Haas; her beloved grandson, Winston Shaner; Sister in-law Brenda Witkowski; and 2 nephews, Shawn and Scott; and her grand-dogs, Merlee and Capper. The love she poured into her family will continue to live on through each of them. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Norma Witkowski, and one brother, Rodger Witkowski.

Doris will be remembered for her gentle-spicy spirit, quiet grace, caring heart, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. She taught those around her that a meaningful life isn't measured by how much you have, but by how deeply you love and care for others. Though her family will miss her every day, they find comfort knowing her battle has ended and her love will remain forever in their hearts.

In accordance with Doris's wishes, no formal services will be held.
