Donald Russell Thompson, 75, of Moline, IL, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2025, at Celebrate Living, Moline.
Cremation will be directed by Mississippi Valley Cremation & Direct Burial, 1811 15th Street Place, Moline, IL. Per his wishes, cremation rights have been accorded and there will be no services. Friends and family are invited to share a toast at Les and Molly’s in Moline on Monday, September 1st at 1pm.
Donald was born March 8, 1950, in Moline, the son of Russell E. and Fern A. Kortum Thompson. Don lived a life defined by loyalty, laughter, and quiet strength. A proud graduate of Moline High School’s Class of 1968, Don went on to serve his country with honor in the Marine Corps Reserves for 6 years. He brought that same dedication to his work, retiring in 2015 after 22 faithful years at Hansaloy in Davenport, Iowa.
Don cheered quietly but loved fiercely when it came to sports - especially his teams: The Chicago Cubs, Bears, and Blackhawks. His home was made brighter by the presence of his beloved dogs, Rusty and Tasha, who were more than pets - they were his family. Don surrounded himself with friendships that were deeply cherished and appreciated throughout his life.
Don was preceded in death by his loving parents and his brother, Phil.
Don leaves behind a legacy of integrity, warmth, and unwavering devotion to those he held dear. He will be remembered not only for the quiet life he led, but for the love he gave - and the loyalty he showed in every chapter of his journey.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and express condolences on his memory page at mvcremation.com
