Dirck Jeff Houtman (1957-2026)

Dirck Jeff Houtman died Friday morning, July 24, 2026, at Allure of Quad Cities Hospice, 833 16th Avenue, Moline.

Born in Detroit on November 3, 1957, he was the eldest child of Loren and Lynette Houtman, who moved to the Quad Cities in the 1970s. His parents and siblings moved away over the years, but Dirck Jeff stayed in the Quads for most of his life.

After attending Moline High School and then receiving his GED, he graduated from the University of Iowa. He worked a variety of jobs before settling into one that he worked for more than twenty-five years. Friends and family remember him as good company and quick-witted, smart, and well-rounded. He could readily engage you in a conversation about history and a wide variety of topics from sports to politics. He cherished his friends. Dirck Jeff loved listening to music and watching football, and his favorite team was the Detroit Lions, whom he would root for tirelessly every year. In recent years, Dirck Jeff loved to take walks in Blackhawk State Park.

Father Loren Houtman passed in 2017, followed by mother Lynette Oelz Houtman in 2018. He is survived by his sister, Kirsten; his brother, Gordon; his sister-in-law, Oryza; his niece, Marilyn; and aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be missed.

His family wishes to thank all of those who have looked out for Dirck Jeff over the years, including those who have loved him over his life and provided care for him most recently. His remains are being cremated by Mississippi Valley Cremation and Direct Burial, Moline, IL. Ashes will be scattered, per his wishes.

Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on his memory page at www.mvcremation.com.
