Dennis "Denny" Robert Schoop, 71, of Galesburg, IL, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at his home with his family by his side. Denny was born on August 20, 1954, in DeWitt, Iowa, the son of Robert and Berniece (Bauer) Schoop. He married Theresa Frambes on October 3, 2015, in Galesburg, IL. Denny is survived by his loving wife, Theresa, two sons, Zachary (Kelley) of Chanhassen, Minnesota, Joshua (Samantha) of Washington, D.C., one daughter, Meghan (Daniel) Mangan of Long Grove, Iowa, and one stepdaughter, Stephanie (Steven) Hoosen of St. Joseph, IL. nine grandchildren: Roseleigh, Elodie, Beckham, Isabel, Giavana, Joseph Schoop, Oliver, Leo, Josephine Mangan; two step grandchildren: Beckett, Ruth Hoosen. Also surviving are his beloved dogs Josie and Grizz. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brothers Randall and Roland and granddaughter Reagan Hoosen.  

Denny had immense joy in the outdoors, and his hunting trips left him with countless stories that he loved to share. He loved a shortcut. He trusted them. He believed in them. And yet, somehow, his shortcuts always added twenty minutes, a wrong turn, at least one "I swear it's this way".  But these detours became the best part of the journey. With him, the long way around was the way home.  One of his greatest joys in life was striking up conversations with strangers. Whenever he visited a restaurant, he loved asking the waitress how she got her name. It was his way of opening a door, inviting a story, and reminding people that their lives matter. And without fail, there was always an answer, often a surprising one, always meaningful. 

A celebration of life is planned for sometime in June. The date will be announced later. 

Cremation has been directed by Mississippi Valley Cremation and Direct Burial, Moline, IL.
