It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved father, David "Dave" Smith, 79. Dave was born on May 27, 1946, and peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 16th, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, IA.
He was known for his quick wit, intelligence, and great sense of humor. Dave is survived by his children, Tiffany, Brandon, and Dustin Smith of the Quad Cities, IL, and his sister, Rebecca Vavrek, Blanco, TX. He was predeceased by his father, Richard "Dick" Smith, and Audrey "Flo" Smith, of Princeton, Illinois. whose memories he held close to his heart.
As a man of faith, Dave was a member of Bethel Wesley United Methodist Church. Dave had a myriad of interests and passions. His favorite pastimes included live music outdoors, playing pinball machines, activities on or near the river, and the Quad City Airshow. He also had a special love of nature and animals, often spending time feeding birds and squirrels and caring for plants.
Dave enjoyed his vacation trips to Florida and various amusement parks. A lover of the arts, Dave had an eclectic taste in music with favorites like Key Largo by Bernie Higgins, Dreams by Van Halen, The Rocky Theme Song, and Viva la Vida by Coldplay. He enjoyed watching his favorite TV show, Landman, and cheering on his favorite sports teams, which included the Chicago Cubs, Kansas City Chiefs, and basketball player Caitlin Clark. His favorite foods included Cod fish sandwiches, Frank's Pizza, and lemonade. His favorite color was pink, reflecting his vibrant and lively personality.
Dave was a man who was knowledgeable about world affairs and never hesitated to share his wisdom. His advice was often sought due to his intelligent and insightful approach. He will be dearly missed. The family would like to thank the University of Iowa Hospital for their excellent care and compassion.
