IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David
Malmstead
August 23, 1962 – December 4, 2025
David Malmstead was born on August 23, 1962, and quietly passed away on December 4, 2025.
David was a remarkable individual known for his vibrant personality that left a lasting impression on everyone he met. As a farrier, David dedicated countless hours to working with horses, embodying his deep love for these majestic animals. His passion for the trade was matched only by his exceptional gift for working with and training them.
He will be remembered most for his incredible storytelling ability. While only a few were lucky enough to witness his shenanigans and know which tales were true, he knew how to keep an audience captivated, with his stories seeming to grow more vivid with each retelling. His other superpower was his musical talent; he could sing and play almost any stringed instrument that came his way. He truly was a larger-than-life figure, bringing humor and warmth into the lives of those around him.
David is survived by his daughter, Achiel (Michael) Lister, and grandchildren Remie and Noah; his parents, Ron and Donna Malmstead; his sister, Kathy (Dewey) Moncrief; and his brother, Michael (Patty) Malmstead. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ron Malmstead Jr.
He was a proud grandfather to Remie and Noah, who will always remember their first pony from Grandpa, popsicles, and tractor rides. Whether known as Uncle Mog or Uncle Dave, everyone, regardless of blood relation, was family.
The legacy of David Malmstead—a devoted farrier, a humorous storyteller, a wonderful friend, and a true cowboy—will be carried on in the hearts of all who knew him. His memory will forever be a source of inspiration and joy, reminding us to embrace life fully and share our own stories.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date, Spring/Summer of 2026. David's grandchildren would like to sponsor a wild horse in his memory. In lieu of flowers sent to the family, please consider a donation to this wonderful cause at his celebration of life.
If you have a story to share, or a few, PLEASE share in the book available below.
