Cory Dew

In Loving Memory and with heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Cory James Dew.

Cory James Dew was born on December 21, 1987, in Chicago, Illinois, and passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis Medical Center East in Davenport, Iowa, due to an asthma infection. He was 37 years old.

Cory’s early years were spent in Calumet Park, Illinois, where he attended Burr Oak Academy, later continuing his education at Woodgate School in Matteson, Illinois. He was a man of immense humor and wisdom. His Asthma kept him in and out of the hospital and unable to do after-school activities. Cory proudly earned his GED, marking the beginning of his journey into adulthood. Over the years, Cory lived in many places, including Calumet Park, Matteson, Missouri, Calumet City, Springfield, Chicago, Los Angeles, and finally Davenport, Iowa.

Cory was passionate about his family and entrepreneurship, and his dedication to his work was unparalleled. Cory got his CDL and started working for DOHRN Transfer Company in 2025. Fatherhood was one of Cory’s greatest joys. He leaves behind his two beloved children: Daizien 13 and Keyori 5. Cory’s love for his children was evident to all who knew him, and his memory will live on through them.

Cory is survived by his devoted mother, Bonita Barnes; his sister, Teena Dew, and niece Niyah and Nephew Jeremiah; his children, Daizien and Keyori; six aunts and uncles—Norma, Cheryl, Wendell, Marilyn, Crystal, and Eddie Jr.; as well as ten cousins—Bobette, Tracy, Robert, Renee, Katrina, Christy, Wendell Jr., James, Shamelle, and Chevon.

Cory will be remembered for his resilience, his journey through life’s challenges, being a jokester, and most of all, his role as a loving son, brother, cousin, and father. Though gone too soon, his presence will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
