Connie Jo Baker (Wilson), 73, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Connie was born on June 30, 1953, in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to Melvin and Joan Wilson. She grew up with a deep appreciation for family, a value that became the foundation of her life. Connie was the beloved wife of Mark Baker and a devoted mother to Jennifer Waldon, Frances Dixon (Josh), and Jesica Bries (Jeremy). While she loved each of her children deeply, she dedicated her life to caring for her daughter, Jennifer, whose severe special needs required extraordinary love and attention. Connie’s unwavering devotion, patience, and selflessness allowed Jennifer to thrive and was one of the greatest expressions of her love. She never viewed caregiving as a burden—it was simply what a mother’s heart was called to do.
She was an incredibly proud grandmother to Nicholas Bailey (Sammantha), Dawson Bailey (Morgan), Cody Bailey, Aidan Bries, Leila Bries, Christopher Bries, Kai Bries, and Kyra Bries. Her family continued to grow with the blessing of her great-grandchildren, Brycen Bailey, Maddox Bailey, Amelia Bailey, Asher Bailey, and Finley Bailey, who brought her endless joy. Connie is survived by her husband, Mark Baker; her children, Jennifer Waldon, Frances Dixon (Josh), and Jesica Bries (Jeremy); her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Sandra Boyd (Bill); and her brother, Bruce Wilson (Denese).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Joan Wilson, and her brother, Jim Wilson. Connie shared a special bond with her siblings and treasured the love and memories they created throughout their lives together. She cherished their relationship and the connection they shared, always valuing the importance of family and the lifelong friendships that only siblings can bring.
Connie’s greatest joy was simply being with the people she loved. She treasured time spent with her family, especially playing games with her grandchildren and making memories that they will carry with them forever. She was a gifted cook whose kitchen was always filled with delicious meals, homemade treats, and the smell of something baking. She had a special talent for creating beautifully decorated cakes, including several wedding cakes that became cherished parts of family celebrations.
She loved the simple pleasures in life—shopping at Kohl’s, enjoying sweets, camping, fishing, and spending time outdoors tending her beautiful flower gardens. She delighted in watching hummingbirds visit her flowers and found peace in nature. Connie also adored her faithful Shih Tzu, Buddy, who was a constant source of companionship and comfort.
Connie will be remembered for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, generous heart, and unconditional love. She lived a life of service, always placing the needs of others before her own. Whether caring for her family, preparing a meal, or simply offering a listening ear, she made everyone around her feel loved and welcomed. Although our hearts are broken by her loss, we find comfort in the countless memories she gave us and the legacy of love she leaves behind. Her kindness, compassion, and devotion to her family will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Kingswood Church, 302 N State St, Geneseo, IL 61254. A dessert reception will follow the service.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and condolences on her memory page at www.mvcremation.com.
