Brandy Sue Medberry, 52, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 20, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Brandy was born on October 3, 1973, to Doyle Lee Hoover and Cathy Jean Zimmerman. She spent most of her life in Cedar Rapids, where she attended George Washington High School. Brandy worked for many years as a server, a career that reflected her warm personality and love of connecting with others.
Above all else, Brandy cherished her family. She was a devoted mother, a proud and loving Nama, a caring sister, the best friend, and a loving partner to John Dwyer for nearly three wonderful years. She had a kind heart, a generous spirit, and an infectious smile that made everyone feel welcome. To know Brandy was truly to love her, and she will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.
Brandy was preceded in death by her parents, Cathy Jean Zimmerman and Doyle Lee Hoover, and her grandmother, Margaret Jean Becker.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her daughter, Rabecca Hoover of Farley, Iowa; son, Gage Zhorne of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her beloved grandsons, Layton and Daxton Rogers; her brother, Steve (Angel) Hoover of Seligman, Missouri, Ronald Frair of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ronnie (Ronda) Frair of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; her sisters, Mishelle (Robert) Pitts of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Kelly (Chuck Reid) Hoover of Paris, Maine, and Sherri Jo Jarvis of Oklahoma; her stepmother, Juanita Hoover of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Aunt Marcia Hoover of Kansas, Oklahoma; her partner, John Dwyer; along with many extended family members, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know and love her.
Celebration of life will be held October 3, 2026, from 2-5 PM at 1201 3rd St SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401.
Cremation has been entrusted to Mississippi Valley Cremation and Direct Burial in Moline, Illinois.
