Benita Helen
Erickson
September 8, 1947 – April 9, 2026
Benita "Bonnie" Helen Erickson (née De Paoli), age 78, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 10, 2026, in Knoxville, Illinois, leaving behind a warmth and light that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her. Born in Highland Park, Illinois, Bonnie spent most of her life in the Chicago suburbs, with a chapter of her early married life lived in the sunshine of San Diego. Wherever she went, she made a home — not just with four walls, but with laughter, open arms, and the irresistible smell of something wonderful cooking.
Bonnie was, above all else, a caregiver. She was the kind of mother who became everyone's mother — the neighborhood mom who offered a safe place to any child or friend who needed one. Her sons' friends knew they could come to her, and she never turned anyone away. That gift of making people feel seen, safe, and loved was perhaps her greatest legacy.
Beyond her devotion to family, Bonnie built a successful career in logistics and transportation sales — a testament to her sharp mind and determined spirit. She wore many hats throughout her life and wore each one with grace.
Her hands were rarely still. Bonnie found deep joy in cooking extraordinary meals, crafting, knitting, and collecting treasures that caught her eye. Those who sat at her table know that a meal made by Bonnie was more than food — it was an act of love. She delighted in road trips with her eldest son, Mike, the two of them exploring new places and making memories that her family will hold close forever.
Bonnie's spirit was as broad as her heart. Raised in the Catholic faith, she walked a spiritual path that was beautifully her own — drawing from many traditions, always searching for peace and connection to something greater. She found the sacred in quiet moments, in the people around her, and in the beauty of the world she so loved to explore.
She was known for her laugh. She was known for her smile. And she was known for the rare and remarkable way she made every single person in a room feel like they mattered.
Bonnie is preceded in death by her beloved eldest son, Michael, and by her dear friend Marvin Barmes, both of whom she now joins. She is survived by her sons, Steve and Todd; her grandchildren, Christopher, Bella, Justin, Tatum, and Jaxson; her great-granddaughter, Alice; her daughters-in-law, Robin, Sue, and Julie; and by the Barmes family — Mary and Carol — who held a special place in her heart that she never stopped honoring.
A private gathering will be held for the family to celebrate her life, share her stories, and say goodbye for now to a woman who was, in every sense, a ray of light.
She will be deeply, endlessly missed.
Family and friends are invited to share memories and express condolences on her memory page at www. mvcremation.com.
